When: April 28 – On April 28,
Where: Mike Neely park in Odessa, Tx
On April 28, the Odessa Family Y is celebrating Healthy Kids
Day® with a free community event for kids and families in Odessa. More than 1,900 Ys across
the country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick start physical activity and learning
throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids.
Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of kids, is
filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’
lifestyles for the long term. Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate
the mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the
summer months.
“At the Odessa Family Y, we know that when the school year ends, many kids lose exposure
to activities that keep them moving and learning. Healthy Kids Day will help parents begin
thinking early about what their kids need to stay physically and intellectually active in the
summer,” said Mitch Gerig, CEO/President Odessa Family Y. “Summer is just around the corner
and is an ideal time for kids to get out and grow so they are healthier and sharper when the
next school year begins.”
The Odessa Family Y’s event will take place at Mike Neely Park, across from the Y, from 10
a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will feature activities such as activity jumpers, running events, sport
challenges, character building, arts and crafts, Health and Wellness checks and tips and more.
A leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development,
healthy living and social responsibility, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day to teach healthy habits
and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity through active play. As part of this initiative, the
Y – along with hundreds of thousands of parents and kids nationwide – is taking on summer
by addressing critical gaps in health and education that cause kids to be at risk for childhood
obesity and suffer summer learning loss.
The Odessa Family Y is proud to host representatives from ORMC, Target, Gandy’s, Stripes, the
Ector County Library, Permian Basin Community Centers and Texas Roadhouse.
Nationally, Healthy Kids Day is supported by the Dodge brand.

The Odessa Family YMCA is pleased to announce another year of partnership with Challenger Sports, providers of the USA’s most popular soccer camp, to host a week long British Soccer camps during the week of June 11th – 15th at theMike Neeley Park, South across University Blvd. from the Y, Odessa, TX 79762.
The camps will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs. Challenger will hold over 4,000 British Soccer Camps this summer and will coach over 120,000 players between the ages of 3 and 18, as well as completing FREE coach education clinics for over 30,000 parents and coaches.
Challenger’s British Soccer Camp is more than a week of drills and skills. In addition to taking part in a daily regimen of foot skill development (through the 1,000 touches curriculum), technical and tactical practices and daily ‘World Cup’ tournament style plays, each child will be treated to a rich cultural experience and lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship.
Each camper will receive a FREE camp T-shirt, soccer ball, soccer poster, individual skills performance evaluation and free access to an educational soccer website. In addition, any child who signs up online at least 45 days (April 27th) prior to camp will receive a genuine British Soccer replica Jersey valued at $39.
